Victor Jiang is a highly-experienced technology entrepreneur and venture investor, whose international career encompasses a wide variety of accomplishments that span the fields of business development and advising, international trade, disaster management, and venture capital and include work in Australia, China, the Middle East and Europe.
Advising and Investing
He is executive chairman and managing director of Sapien Ventures, a multinational fund management firm with strong links across Silicon Valley, Australasia, and Greater China. Sapien aims to provide a highly-active value-add to its portfolio companies, by being closely involved in their business strategy decisions and carefully supporting their operational activities. The firm is particularly focused on advancing disruptive fintech, enterprise B2B software ventures, and online consumer marketplaces.
Prior to founding Sapien in 2015, Victor enjoyed a successful career in business analytics and data management software for IBM in Europe, the Middle East, and Australasia. His primary client market focus areas were the public sector and financial services industry.
In the insurance arena, Victor has undertaken thought leadership roles in geospatial risk-analysis in support of the Australian Natural Disaster Insurance Review (NDIR) board, which built the case for improving risk-mapping solutions and providing better public intelligence on flood and other risks across the country.
He is also Director of Commercial Outreach for Ausinan.org, a large network of scientists and technology entrepreneurs with strong links to higher education and research institutions across Australia and many parts of China. The organisation is uniquely positioned to bring innovative technology ventures from either country to the other for maximal commercialization potential.
In pursuing his venture investment objectives, Victor has been closely involved with the development of blockchain-based businesses working in several different industry sectors. For example, InvestDigital is building a complete ecosystem that provides crypto-asset management services for the professional investor community. Similarly, CivicLedger uses its proprietary blockchain platform to provide solutions to some of the biggest challenges faced by government clients.
He is also an executive of the Sydney Blockchain Centre, which was established to promote the development of the region‘s blockchain industry, and to establish a core position in the international blockchain sector in the financial and technology hub of Australia. Through his links with the worldwide Keiretsu Forum network of angel investors, he provides regional entrepreneurs invaluable access to global sources of early-stage investor funding.
Victor graduated from Australian National University with business majors in information systems and accountancy, and he subsequently honed his entrepreneurial talents in the inaugural Australian class of Founders Institute, the world’s largest pre-seed startup accelerator. In his ensuing career, Victor has certainly fulfilled the institute’s mission of empowering talented and motivated people to advance impactful technology-enabled ventures worldwide.
